Gratitude Without Borders | A Thanksgiving Story

Faith, Family, and the Journey to Safety

When the war reached their hometown of Novomoskovsk, Dmytro Trebushkovand his wife faced an impossible choice: stay in the home they had built with their foster childrenor flee with nothing but faith.

“We never imagined we would have to pack up and leave,” he recalls. “But the fighting came closer, and we knew the children had to be safe.”

With 18 people, including his family, foster children, and his elderly mother, squeezed into two cars, they began the long drive west. Along the way, they passed 22 checkpoints, prayed through sleepless nights, and saw firsthand the power of compassion.

Thanks to ADRA’s global network of supporters and local partners, they found safety in Poland. There, an Adventist community welcomed them with food, shelter, and care, just one example of faith-based humanitarian relief in Ukraine made possible through your generosity.

“We are used to giving,” says Trebushkov. “But when we came here, everyone gave to us. And that helped us understand what it means to truly receive grace.”

Gratitude and Giving Thanks

This Thanksgiving, ADRA gives thanks for people like Dmytro Trebushkov—and for you.

Your prayers, compassion, and faith make it possible for ADRA teams to serve families in crisis across Ukraine, Gaza, the Caribbean, Philippines, and beyond. Every gift of kindness becomes part of a larger mission: to help others live as God intended.

Because of supporters like you:

  • Families fleeing conflict found safety and warmth.
  • Children uprooted by war continued their education.
  • Churches became shelters, schools, and beacons of hope.

Each act of compassion reflects the heart of ADRA’s work—a global family living out gratitude through service.

Hope and Faith in Action

This Thanksgiving, we remember the words of 2 Corinthians 9:11:

“You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”

To every ADRA donor, volunteer, and staff member around the world—thank you. Your faith turns compassion into action and transforms lives every day.

Because of you, hope shines brighter and gratitude travels farther.
