ADRA's Statement for World Refugee Day

June 20 is World Refugee Day when the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) joins the United Nations and the world to commemorate the strength, courage and perseverance of millions of refugees, and show support for families forced to leave their homes due to persecution or conflict.

Tropical storm Fani, (pronounced “foe-nee”) a severe cyclonic storm formed in the Bay of Bengal with wind gusts of up to 127 mph, is heading to the eastern coast of India and looks to gain strength as it’s forecasted to also move toward Bangladesh by Saturday.

In the month of March, numerous disasters occurred, including the worst tropical storm on record to affect the southern African regions of Mozambique, Malawi, and Zimbabwe. During that same month, Nepal and Indonesia were also hardest hit by heavy rain and floods.

Indonesia: ADRA Responds to Flash Floods and Mudslides

On March 16, flash floods and mudslides hit the eastern Indonesian province of Papua near the subdistrict of Jayapura. Reports are the flood waters left at least 104 dead, 60 missing, 74 injured and displaced more than 4,000 people.
