Rohingya Crisis

In 2017, the Rohingya crisis dominated the news as some 700,000 refugees fled genocide in Myanmar. However, the Rohingya people have been fleeing persecution for decades, resettling in Bangladesh as a temporary haven. Their lives have become permanently temporary. Today, multiple generations of Rohingya call Bangladesh home, even as Bangladesh does not recognize them. They remain stateless—forever belonging nowhere. Still, they create a life, a more permanent shelter within the camps, a family, a legacy. They find joy even as they endure sorrows. Life goes on, and there are reasons to smile.
