Across the world, millions of children are preparing to return to school—some carrying brand-new backpacks and pencils, others simply carrying the hope of a better future. At ADRA, we believe that education changes everything. Whether in bustling cities or remote refugee camps, our mission is to give every child the chance to learn, grow, and dream.

This back-to-school season, we want you to meet Ahmed.

A Journey of Resilience and Learning

Ahmed, 11, is a refugee living with his family in the Middle East. Ten years ago, his parents fled the war, seeking safety in the Beqaa Valley. Today, they live in a small makeshift tent on the outskirts of Baalbek, built from tarpaulins and scrap materials.

Life is far from easy. The family has no electricity, relies on a single solar panel to charge their phones, and must fetch drinking water from their neighbors. In winter, the cold seeps into their home, and during school breaks, Ahmed and his siblings work in the nearby cashew farm to help cover rent.

But every day that school is in session, Ahmed walks more than an hour to reach the ADRA Learning Center in the center of town. There, he finds warmth—not just from the sun, but from the dedicated teachers who make learning possible.

“I love going to the ADRA Learning Center because we have good teachers,” Ahmed says with a shy smile.

The Power of ADRA Education

From Middle East to Laos, from Sudan to the Solomon Islands, ADRA’s education programs provide safe classrooms, trained teachers, and the tools children need to learn. For refugee children like Ahmed, education isn’t just about reading and math—it’s a lifeline to stability, dignity, and hope for the future.

This year, as children worldwide return to school, ADRA continues to:

  • Support refugee and displaced children with inclusive education programs.
  • Train and equip teachers to handle the challenges of teaching in crisis-affected areas.
  • Provide school supplies, uniforms, and safe learning environments.
  • Advocate for every child’s right to an education, no matter their circumstances.

How You Can Help This School Year

As classrooms reopen, you can make a difference in a child’s life. Your gift to ADRA’s education programs helps children like Ahmed continue their studies, dream big, and break the cycle of poverty.

Education is more than a classroom—it’s hope for tomorrow.
