Aperçu du projet

Building Recovery for Kasai (BUREKA-II) was a two-year project funded by the USAID/BHA Office implemented by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in Kasai Province, Kamonia Territory of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The project targeted 51,319 individuals (8,000 households) to accelerate the recovery of their livelihoods through the integration of improved agricultural practices, access to savings and credit, education for female beneficiaries and clean and safe WASH services.

To achieve the goals, BUREKA II distributed improved seeds of maize, cowpea, pepper, onions, cabbage, eggplant, tomatoes, and carrots to a total of 7,974 households (51,234 individuals), trained farmers and provided tools. In addition, the project supported 2,407 individuals (100 groups) with VSLA assistance, enrolled and trained 1,897 adults who successfully graduated in numeracy and literacy. As part of the sustainability plan, two literacy centers were rehabilitated in Kankala and Mungamba to facilitate future learning

BUREKA II rehabilitated 8 water springs to improve access to clean and safe water for targeted participants. To ensure the project’s goal of improving access to sanitation facilities, 4,000 SanPlats were distributed and installed across the three health zones. A total of 49,731 individuals were reached by hygiene messaging, with 290 radio emissions conducted to strengthen sensitization on good hygiene practices. The BUREKA II project rehabilitated 39 km of agriculture feeder roads

The intervention outpaced its target by rehabilitating 39 km of agriculture feeder roads in the Kankala, Tshibemba and Mukuanjanga health areas to facilitate the communities and farmers’ access to markets. This improved the movement of goods and people to access the local markets and the main Tshikapa market. In addition, through cash for work activities, the project distributed cash assistance to 1,807 individuals to improve household food consumption needs.
