Back to my beloved work

Hawa is one livelihood restoration beneficiary in the RAWA project implemented in BNS in Sudan. As food security and water supply were adversely affected by the conflict that ruptured in 2011 between SAF and SPLM-N, there was a high need to improve both access to safe water and address underlying causes of the food insecurity in Bau and Kurmuk localities. The RAWA project was proposed to address needs of those affected population in 13 villages through rehabilitation of water sources and damaged systems and provision of agricultural inputs to improve productivity.

Hawa Maidais 35 years old. she lives in Derange village in Bau locality and she has four children 3 daughters and one son. She previously was running a small home bakery to help her family and make a living for them. During the conflict her family moved to Elshaheed Afandi in 2011 because of war. Therefore, she lost all her asset and suffered a lot in her live that forced her to work in Elshaheed Afani market to help her family.

In 2020 I returned to my original village Derange, I tried to work as a tea maker in Derange market, but I couldn’t be due to lack of capital money. I worked as fuel wood collector to help my kids after my husband died. In June 2022 ADRA Sudan provided me a bakery package to regain my past work, that let me come back to bakery market as my preferred job, and I did my best to succeed. I prepared my new bakery and started working to make bread and sell in the village market and for restaurants. I think that support and grant let me and my family in a better situation. I gained more money, so I bought 3 goats after two months of work. I helped my neighbors to change their live and gain more money through giving some of the bread made to sell out in the village to get income from the profit. The support provided to me helped me to restart my business and to help other people to benefit from it. I hope that peace will be attained so that all families who are now displaced in Shaheed Afandi , Alazaza and Algarri to come back to their original villages to resume their normal lives and contribute in the development of their families and communities.
