North-Eastern Nigeria has become increasingly tense and volatile since June 4, 2014, when the fundamentalist group Boko Haram killed nearly 500 people in the state of Borno.
Moins d'une semaine plus tard, le groupe était soupçonné d'avoir enlevé 20 jeunes femmes dans le village de Garkin Fulani, proche du lieu où plus de 200 écolières avaient été enlevées en avril, selon CNN.com.
The insurgency and violence has left more than 5 million people in North-Eastern Nigeria homeless. It is reported that approximately 3 million of these are women and children.
ADRA is already in the country and is planning to soon start providing food for 744 internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have been gravely impacted.
ADRA has also trained 2,000 youth in disaster and emergency management through the ADRA Youth honors program.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
