ADRA’s Hurricane Matthew Response in Haiti Continues with Major Delivery of Meals
MIAMI, FLORIDA—Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) has partnered with Stop Hunger Now to deliver 2,851,200 meals to people in Haiti as part of their ongoing Hurricane Matthew disaster response.
ADRA and Stop Hunger Now have joined with Airlink, a rapid-response relief organization that links nonprofits with partner airlines in emergencies, to send the first 285,120 meals by plane from Miami on November 1. The remaining meals will ship via 40-foot shipping containers soon after.
The meals will provide critical relief to more than 25,000 people in Haiti who have been displaced or otherwise affected in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. The dehydrated meals are comprised of rice, soy, vegetables, and include 23 essential vitamins and minerals.
More than 2 million people in Haiti have felt the effects of Hurricane Matthew, including close to 900,00 children. ADRA was the first humanitarian organization to reach some of the remote regions hit by the storm and have provided urgent response to hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children by providing access to clean water, shelter supplies, hygiene resources, and emergency food.
