I also did small jobs like laundry or fetching water, but it was still not enough to feed my children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/adra.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/A-Transformed-Life-in-the-Deep-South-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-41633\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adra.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/A-Transformed-Life-in-the-Deep-South-1024x682.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/adra.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/A-Transformed-Life-in-the-Deep-South-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/adra.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/A-Transformed-Life-in-the-Deep-South-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/adra.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/A-Transformed-Life-in-the-Deep-South.jpeg 1472w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When the ASOTRY project arrived in Belafika, Longomasy joined a Village Savings and Loans (VSL) group because she wanted to change her life. \u201cI used all my savings to buy two goats,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She later joined a Farmer Field School (FFS) created by ASOTRY to support agriculture and livestock. Through the program, she received another goat, as members who already owned one were given an additional goat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith the FFS, I learned how to raise goats,\u201d she explained. \u201cThe technicians showed us how to build shelters and how to feed them properly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over time, her herd grew to 36 goats. Wanting a better home for her children, she sold five goats and used the money to build a stronger, more comfortable house. \u201cWe used to live in a small straw house,\u201d she said. \u201cNow we have a better home. With the profits, I also started a small shop in front of the house.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Longomasy has also seen improvements in her family\u2019s health and nutrition. \u201cBefore, we often shared just a little cassava for lunch because it was the cheapest food,\u201d she said. \u201cNow, thanks to my business, we can eat a more varied diet and stay healthier.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As her goat farming continued to grow, she joined a Livestock Marketing Group, giving her better opportunities to sell her animals. \u201cI have more plans for the future,\u201d she said. \u201cI want to sell half of my goats in Toliara and use the profit to raise chickens and invest in a rice business. I will keep the other half to continue growing my herd.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Longomasy is able to send all her children to school. She hopes they will one day become doctors or community leaders. \u201cAs a widow who cannot read or write, I had lost hope,\u201d she said. \u201cBut ASOTRY changed my life. Now I can care for my children, and I believe our future will keep improving.
