But ongoing drought has led to poor harvests and a serious food crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLast year, we harvested nothing and faced a food shortage,\u201d said Eramisaotra Maminiaina Jeanine, a mother of two. \u201cWe ate cactus fruit for breakfast and dinner. Launched in 2021, the project provides emergency food assistance along with agricultural support. In addition to monthly food distributions, it trains farmers in home gardening through FFS groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seeing the value of these practices, Jeanine brings together the 18 members of her group every day. \u201cEach morning, we meet to learn new techniques and water our crops,\u201d she explained. \u201cI help the group apply what I learned, like crop rotation and planting different crops together. With the seeds we received, we are now growing new vegetables like zucchini, eggplant, and leeks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"703\" height=\"469\" src=\"https:\/\/adra.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/AINA-Success-Story-2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-41620\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adra.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/AINA-Success-Story-2.jpeg 703w, https:\/\/adra.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/AINA-Success-Story-2-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 703px) 100vw, 703px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Jeanine has already seen positive changes in her life and in her community. \u201cMy children are healthier, and so are the children of other group members,\u201d she said. \u201cFamilies now have money to buy food and take their children to the hospital when needed. The children are also doing better in school. When they are not hungry, they are more motivated to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is proud to support others in her community. \u201cI enjoy teaching because I see the results,\u201d she said. \u201cOur lives are truly changing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Motivated to do more, Jeanine encouraged the group to work together to dig a well near their garden so they could easily water their crops. Their hard work paid off. Within three months, they began harvesting vegetables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur situation has improved a lot,\u201d Jeanine said. \u201cWe eat some of what we grow along with the rice from the project. When the rice runs out, we sell part of the harvest.
