Usually, we only ate cassava throughout the day,” she explains.

In North Andoharano village, Lazarivo Commune, South Betioky District, many households faced malnutrition and poor health due to limited food access, low awareness of proper nutrition, and inadequate farming practices. Children were hit the hardest.

Through the ASOTRY project, Action Intercoopération Madagascar (AIM) partnered with the community to strengthen the health and nutrition of women and children. Farmers improved food production through Field Schools, while Community Health Agents and Lead Mothers supported families in building healthier habits.

Jeanine, a Community Health Volunteer (CHV), and fifteen Lead Mothers of Andoharano are among those who have received training on homestead gardening, and proper nutrition from the project.

“Before the ASOTRY Project, our knowledge was limited,” says Jeanine. “The quality and quantity of our productions were very low.
