SILVER SPRING, MD (August 8, 2023)- <\/strong>Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA)\u00a0has stepped up aid to assist the Philippines in the wake of the Mayon Volcanic Activity.\u00a0 Since June 19th<\/sup> Mayon Volcano is still under level 3 alert, which indicates that it is now experiencing a high unrest due to the presence of magma at the crater, and seismologists believe there could be a possible dangerous eruption in the next days or weeks. The incident has caused seven volcanic earthquakes and 391 rockfalls.<\/p>\n

The ongoing eruption of Mayon Volcano presents various challenges for people in the surrounding areas, including ashfall threats, livelihood disruptions, and family displacement. At least 10,200 families, children, and individuals from 26 villages\u00a0have been affected, according to local authorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cADRA, is responding by providing cash assistance to hundreds of families in evacuation centers in Malilipot and Santo Domingo, Albay. Our staff on the ground is also providing food, water, shelter materials, and hygiene kits to those affected by the Mayon Volcanic Activities. ADRA aims to deliver immediate relief and long-term support to those impacted by the disaster. We are collaborating with local authorities, humanitarian organizations, and Adventist Church volunteers to prioritize the recovery and rehabilitation needs of the affected communities, ensuring they receive the necessary care and assistance.\u201d Says Prabhook Bandaratilleke, \u00a0ADRA country director for The Philippines.<\/p>\n

ADRA is also providing aid to families impacted by Typhoon Egay, which intensified into a super Tropical Storm on July 25th, causing devastating winds and monsoon rains to the western portions of the country. At least 5 people lost their lives, more than\u00a010,000 families, children, and individual were affected by Typhoon Egay. ADRA emergency team will remain on the ground and is working tirelessly to ensure that these supplies reach those who need them the most.<\/p>\n

ADRA teams are working closely with local authorities, partner organizations, and community leaders to evaluate the situation, and distribute emergency provisions like clean water, hygiene kits, and medical aid. ADRA also establishing temporary shelters and safe areas for those displaced. These shelters prioritize the safety and well-being of the most vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and pregnant women.<\/p>\n
