{"id":9357,"date":"2019-03-11T19:01:21","date_gmt":"2019-03-11T19:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adra.org\/?p=9357"},"modified":"2026-04-02T12:50:23","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T12:50:23","slug":"adras-2019-annual-council-gears-toward-growth-embraces-new-purpose","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adra.org\/fr\/adras-2019-annual-council-gears-toward-growth-embraces-new-purpose","title":{"rendered":"Le Conseil annuel 2019 de l'ADRA s'oriente vers la croissance et adopte un nouvel objectif"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Organization directors discuss how to be more relevant to the needs of society.<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Chaque ann\u00e9e, l'Agence adventiste de d\u00e9veloppement et de secours (ADRA) organise deux semaines de sessions de groupes de travail avec environ 200 membres du personnel de ses 131 bureaux nationaux.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual assembly of ADRA\u2019s directors and associate directors convened in Amman, Jordan to network, discuss areas of improvement regarding finance, development, partnership, programs, and marketing, and address how ADRA can be relevant to the needs of an ever-changing society.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mobilizing Effective Leaders&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A leadership summit kicked off the meetings introducing three pillars of thought for ADRA\u2019s leaders to consider into the year, namely to create clarity, generate energy, and thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCreating clarity asks \u2018why\u2019 we exist as an organization and helps provide a focus on delivering our mission,\u201d said Korey Dowling, ADRA\u2019s vice president for people and culture. \u201cOnce clarity exists, we generate energy asking \u2018how\u2019 we can drive organizational culture and create employee engagement. Lastly, we unleash a thriving culture of leaders by growing people personally, professionally, and spiritually.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants were also introduced to an array of workshops and plenary classes. Leading experts and specialists spoke on topics about spirituality, influential leadership, employee relations, diversity, work ethics, and mentoring, to name a few.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Karla Cole, director of annual giving at ADRA, attended a creative workshop focused on storytelling where Bill Knott, PhD, executive editor of the Adventist Review and Adventist World, was the presenter. \u201cI found the storytelling workshop to be a unique way to inspire our fundraising strategy,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cStorytelling is as much what the teller says, but also what the listener hears,\u201d Dr. Knott said during his storytelling workshop. \u201cA story has the ability to be internalized by the hearer to make it his own and be changed by it.\u201d He added that every culture uses stories and that stories have the power to let God speak to each individual and their personal narrative.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese workshops really helped me see what possibilities I can do to apply in our country office,\u201d said Prisca Chileya, assistant emergency management coordinator at ADRA in Kenya. \u201cI hadn\u2019t been exposed to this information before, and it\u2019s helped me to think differently on how to do business. Now, I have so many ideas running in my head about what we can do to help school girls and the environment.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Impacting the Future&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jonathan Duffy, ADRA\u2019s president, closed out the two-week sessions unveiling ADRA\u2019s new logo, purpose, and motto, and revealed a new global advocacy campaign being launched by ADRA.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTwo years ago, ADRA surveyed the country offices to get a sense of who ADRA is,\u201d Duffy said. \u201cWe discovered that ADRA is great at developing long-term programs, emergency response, human rights, but we lacked in our faith identity and how we work is misconstrued.\u201d Duffy further explained that ADRA has three things in its favor: the agency is fueled by faith, has an extensive network of 20 million people connected to the church, and third, ADRA is locally led and dependable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These findings led to ADRA coming up with its new purpose, according to Duffy, which he shared is now, \u201cServing humanity so all may live as God intended.\u201d Duffy also added that ADRA is different from other humanitarian agencies because \u201cwe strive for all people to live as God intended with justice, compassion, and love\u2014three descriptors that will become ADRA\u2019s new motto.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with the new purpose and motto, ADRA\u2019s new logo was described in detail by Salvador Montes de Oca, ADRA\u2019s associate director of design.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe feet of the people have been removed making the logo more prominent. The color is also now a near green color,\u201d said Montes de Oca. Another new change he shared was that country names will not be associated with ADRA. \u201cThe brand is now ADRA across the board, to be more unified,\u201d he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the presentation, each country office received an ADRA style guide on a USB port, and a teal-colored T-shirt grafted with ADRA&#8217;s new purpose statement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Call for Social Justice&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Duffy also announced ADRA\u2019s new global advocacy campaign called, \u201cEvery Child. Everywhere.
