Meet Asinyen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hunger and starvation is the reality for too many still. It’s a deadly cycle and only together, can we help fight end hunger. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have any hope for the future,\u201d Asinyen says. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You see, five days ago, Asinyen received a small bag of rice from a friend and fellow SDA church member. She made it stretch to last three days, but she hasn\u2019t eaten since. And, she doesn\u2019t know when she will eat again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asinyen\u2019s tiny hut lies on the edge of a town in northern Kenya surrounded by little more than dust. It\u2019s desolate and lonely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Made from thatch and scrap tin, her home isn\u2019t much, but it is all she has.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her children left in search of survival, her food stores are always empty, and the clothes she wears are all she owns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But even this home is not really hers \u2013 Asinyen has been squatting on the land for years, knowing that one day the owners will return and she will be forced to leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The impact of hunger is devastating. It has not only robbed Asinyen of hope, but it has also taken one of her children \u2013 20 years ago one of her children died due to hunger and malnutrition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI go hungry often,\u201d <\/strong>Asinyen says. \u201cWhen it\u2019s been a couple of days, I\u2019ll go to my friends and hope they can feed me.\u201d
<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As she approaches a friend\u2019s home, Asinyen is never sure what she will find. Sometimes they will be able to give her food, or money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other times, they will ask her to leave because they don\u2019t have anything to share. They are hungry too<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the past, Asinyen could count on the help of her neighbors. Now everyone is experiencing the same deadly hunger. More often than not, she leaves empty-handed and hungry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI get sick all the time because I don\u2019t eat enough,\u201d Asinyen says. \u201cI am very weak, and I can\u2019t work anymore because of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
