If you are a health care professional, thank you for your service. If you live with or know a health care professional, please reach out to them today. Please tell them that they are making the world a better place.

Before the COVID-19 crisis, there have always been those devoting themselves to the health and life of others. It is globally urgent right now, and therefore featured more prominently in the news, but before this pandemic surfaced, thousands of men and women have been quietly improving their corner of the world.

Savitri Devi is one of those unsung heroes. The auxiliary nurse and midwife has been immunizing pregnant women and newborns in Baghpat, a district in northern India, for 15 years. She has seen firsthand how far India has come in the 21st century.

“When the polio program began in 1999, I saw the cases of polio decline,” she said. “Now it is gone from India. Killer diseases no longer affect the children as they once did.”

India was declared polio free in 2014, but Savitri and many others like her continue to partner with ADRA to ensure that mothers and babies remain healthy from polio and many other preventable diseases.

Though we are living in the midst of a pandemic, experts assure us there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It may be months away, but one day we will have a vaccine, and we will look at this crisis the way India looks at the polio crisis: awful, but ultimately preventable.

We can defeat this. It requires strict adherence to social distancing and other expert recommendations, but it can be beaten.

We are told in Hebrews that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. This global health crisis may change by the hour, but Jesus is our foundation. He does not change.

My prayer today is for all the health care workers fighting at the front lines of this pandemic, and for all those who continue to change lives for the better.

Que Dieu vous bénisse tous.

En cette période de crise sanitaire mondiale, nous oublions souvent ceux qui sont en première ligne.
