You have likely observed by now how hard it is to buy water\nbottles in the grocery store. During this time of confusion and instability,\nfolks are buying as many essentials as they can afford, just in case the global\nhealth crisis worsens. This panic purchasing creates empty aisles and\ncompounding fears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many people around the world, however, do not have the\nluxury of buying bottled water. In fact, 844 million people don\u2019t even have\naccess to clean water, bottled or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today is World Water Day, a time to acknowledge the immense\nwork that still needs to be done for those in need, as well as to celebrate the\nmany successes ADRA sees around the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Take, for example, this community in southern Madagascar.\nFor years, they gathered water from an open, shallow well. It was impossible to\nregulate cleanliness and monitor usage, and the community suffered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe water from this well was really insufficient for us,\u201d one\ncommunity member said. \u201cSometimes, we had to go to another village to fetch\nwater, and we felt we were really struggling. The water we drank was not safe\nat all, so diarrhea really prevailed here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All that changed when the community partnered with ADRA to\nrehabilitate the waterpoint, install a pump to cover and regulate usage, and\nbuild a protective shelter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you go to the village today, you will not find the dirty,\ndried-up waterpoint of old, but a clean, secured, and ever-flowing well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yes, these are troubling times, but let us remember that God\nhas a plan\u2014here on earth and for the day we meet in Heaven. We are told in\nIsaiah, \u201cWith joy you will draw the water from the wells of salvation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The grocery stores may be short on supplies, but the wells\nof salvation will never run dry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
