{"id":17433,"date":"2020-03-11T19:03:18","date_gmt":"2020-03-11T19:03:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adra.org\/?p=17433"},"modified":"2026-03-31T16:42:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T16:42:12","slug":"news-release-education-campaign-surpasses-550000-signatures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adra.org\/fr\/news-release-education-campaign-surpasses-550000-signatures","title":{"rendered":"News Release: Education Campaign Surpasses 550,000 Signatures"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Every Child Everywhere In School Education Campaign Enlists 550,000 Signatures and Counting<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><em>The Adventist-led education campaign sparks groundswell of support globally for out-of-school children<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SILVER SPRING, MD (March 11, 2020)<\/strong> \u2013 With a goal of one million signed petitions, the <a href=\"https:\/\/inschool.adra.org\/petition\">Every Child Everywhere In School campaign<\/a> has surpassed its half-way mark, reaching more than 556,000 signatures.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ted Wilson, president\nof the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and Michael Kruger, president for the\nAdventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), shared sentiments about the\nrecent milestone.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHalf a million\nsignatures is a testament as a global Christian family that every boy and girl worldwide\ndeserve access to education. Jesus cares about these precious boys and girls\nand we as his followers must follow his lead. We have an important\nresponsibility to help these children\u2014so let\u2019s continue to stand together to\nshow support for education so we can have every child everywhere in school,\u201d\nsays Wilson. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are really\nencouraged by the tremendous support the campaign has received so far. But we\ncan\u2019t stop here,\u201d Kruger says. \u201cEvery time children go to school, we are\npreparing them for life, endowing them with the power to think and do, and\ntraining them to better serve humanity. If those privileges are taken from\nthem, they will continue to be forced to work long hours, live in war zones, or\npushed into marriage at a young age. Simply put, education can change their\nlives. By showing our support, we are showing the world we care for every boy\nand girl\u2019s future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the campaign\u2019s kick-off in October 2019, under the leadership of the Adventist Church and ADRA, supporters from more than 220 countries have shown their support by signing the petition at <a href=\"https:\/\/inschool.adra.org\/petition\">ADRA.org\/InSchool<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>West Africa Leads in\nSign-Ups<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the West-Central\nAfrica Division (WAD), which has the highest signature count so far, young\npeople in the Ivory Coast took to the streets for several weeks to reach out to\nuniversity students and community members to gain support for the campaign. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;During our\nweeklong efforts, we received an overwhelming response of appreciation for the\ncampaign\u2019s mission with willing participants to sign-up,\u201d says&nbsp;Kossi\nDodzi&nbsp;Emmanuel, associate regional director and regional liaison for the\nAdventist Development and Relief Agency in the WAD. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/adra.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IMG_2209-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17437\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adra.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IMG_2209-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/adra.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IMG_2209-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/adra.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IMG_2209-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/adra.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IMG_2209-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/adra.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IMG_2209-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption><em>Education campaign supporters don &#8220;Every Child&#8221; T-shirts during a kick-off event in the Ivory Coast. (Photo: ADRA in Ivory Coast)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Countries in the WAD\nsuch as Chad, Niger, Mali, and Mauritania are considered among the poorest\ncountries in Africa, and education is not easily accessible nor available for\ncountless boys and girls.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, with\neducation projects implemented by ADRA, countries, like Mali, are seeing the\nbenefits of learning. Families, who lacked the opportunity or resources to go\nto school, are now able to send their children to classes because of programs\nADRA is implementing and can now fully grasp the importance of their child\nearning an education.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Divisions Get\nInvolved&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The East-Central\nAfrica Division recently celebrated its \u201cMission Extravaganza,\u201d a large event which\noccurs every five years. This year, the event occurred in the capital city of\nKampala, Uganda at the Mandela National Stadium from February 12 to March 1\nwhere thousands of church members attended to join in the special weeklong\noccasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis was a great opportunity for ADRA to promote the education campaign with all the masses at the stadium,\u201d says Joshua Safari Muhumuza, communication and marketing manager for ADRA Africa Regional Office in Kenya. \u201cThe Africa Regional Office, in conjunction with ADRA in Uganda, strategized to garner as many signatures in the shortest time possible. This included collaborating with the Adventist youth department to mobilize Pathfinders and senior youth to collect signatures through paper petitions.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the\ncelebration at the stadium, ADRA also had a booth for people to sign-up. \u201cWe\nwere surprised at how many people flocked our table to sign the petition,\u201d Muhumuza\nsays. Nigeria has\norganized petition sign-ups in various communities. In the South Pacific region,\ncountries like Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea are\nmaking headway to gather petitions with local churches, schools, and\ncommunities, especially during the upcoming Global Youth Day on March 21.\nAdditionally, the South American Division is conducting a major push through\ntelevision and digital platforms in support of the global education\ncampaign.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The Push for\nEducation<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the core of ADRA\u2019s\nglobal humanitarian efforts is community development, which involves empowering\nindividuals and groups of people and providing them with the necessary skills\nto effect change in their own communities.&nbsp;For this campaign, education\nhas been the focus for the Adventist Church and ADRA due to the staggering\nstatistics of children affected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, there are\n264 million children around the world who are out of school, based on a\n2017-2018 report by UNESCO.
