The fires have been declared the nation\u2019s deadliest in a century according to local authorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen a natural disaster strikes, ADRA,\u00a0as\u00a0an international humanitarian agency immediately\u00a0activated its teams to\u00a0respond and equally so to disasters affecting North America,\u201d says Imad Madanat, vice president of programs for ADRA International. \u201cThough the U.S. is not a territory we\u00a0directly implement in, we willingly seek\u00a0and\u00a0reach\u00a0out\u00a0to\u00a0ACS, our sister organization, to provide\u00a0necessary support to help\u00a0them fill the gaps in\u00a0their\u00a0emergency efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ADRA connected shortly with ACS after the wildfires continued spreading to assist with ongoing relief, and were on standby for ACS who was already assessing needs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Based on needs assessments conducted among fire survivors, ACS found that plates, utensils, pots and pans were some of the most needed items families were lacking,&#8221; says Charlene Sargent, director of Adventist Community Services for the Pacific Union Conference.\u00a0 &#8220;Hungry people who have lost everything are asking for kitchen items so they can begin returning to a more normal life of preparing and eating foods they need and love.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The wildfires destroyed 250,000 acres of land, and took the lives of more than 80 people.
