Es scheint, als h\u00e4tten Adia und Endana schon immer ein schwieriges Leben gef\u00fchrt. Im Jahr 2013, als die Schwestern erst 6 und 7 Jahre alt waren, starb ihre Mutter, und bald darauf gingen ihre \u00e4lteren Br\u00fcder fort, um Nahrung und Arbeit zu finden. Bis heute sind sie nicht zur\u00fcckgekehrt.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With a tear in her eye, Adia added, \u201cThen the same year, our father died and we were left alone.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Adia and\u00a0Endana\u00a0were\u00a0now\u00a0left\u00a0to fend for themselves\u00a0in\u00a0a\u00a0rural village in\u00a0Kenya.\u00a0Can\u00a0you imagine–two young girls left to fend for themselves in the middle of what has so far been three years of deadly drought?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

\u201cWe were now expected to be adults. It was so hard,\u201d\u00a0Endana\u00a0said, tears streaming down her face. \u201cIt was a burden you just can\u2019t bear.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Every day the girls fought to simply survive. They would rise at 5:00 a.m. to walk to school, usually on empty stomachs. After the return journey from school, one of them would walk the mile and a half to fetch water from a dirty water point, while the other stayed home to clean and cook–if they had any food, that is.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThree days of the week we have no food and sleep hungry,\u201d Adia explained.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On top of it all, with no male family members present, the girls worried about their safety.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are afraid of staying by ourselves, alone as two young girls,\u201d\u00a0Endana\u00a0said.\u00a0\u201cBad people can come and harm us.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a fear that no child should have!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Adia and\u00a0Endana\u00a0still struggle, lacking the most basic of necessities, and\u00a0their wishes\u00a0are\u00a0simple.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
